Petbarn
FFARQ's preferred adoption method is through our partner stores, Petbarn at Ipswich or Virginia. If a cat has had an illness or personality trait that is not suited for Petbarn, then home adoption may be the preferred adoption method.
Your Foster Carer Coordinator will discuss with you which Petbarn your kitten will go to. Usually, this is based on proximity, but it may also depend upon current Petbarn vacancies.
If your kitten has had cat flu, they can only be at Petbarn with other kittens that have also had cat flu. This may change the Petbarn location or timing of their placement.
All cats and kittens will stay a maximum of 14 days per Petbarn visit. If they are not adopted during this time, or they are showing signs of distress at Petbarn (e.g. not eating, continued hiding, ongoing diarrhoea), you will be asked to collect your foster and continue fostering from home and FFARQ will promote home adoption.
Please note that FFARQ promotes a collaborative culture and if you encounter any issues (e.g unavailability for certain pickups, etc.), discuss these with your Coordinator, so that solutions can be found.
Taking Kitty to Petbarn
Your kitty must be up to date with their F3 vaccination, flea and worm treatment (+ have coverage for their 2 week stay).
Your Coordinator will discuss with you a time to take your foster/s to Petbarn and they will send all the associated paperwork. However, please take the printed vaccination form with the F3 vial sticker attached that your home vaccinated has given you - give this to the staff at Petbarn.
If a situation arises that you cannot take your foster/s to Petbarn please notify your oordinator as soon as possible.
When you arrive, talk to the staff at the service desk who will take you to the pens where your foster/s will be located. Let the staff know about your fosters and any of their traits. The staff will have the information that you created in their profile, so if the staff are busy and cannot spend time with you, don't worry! If you like, you can call Petbarn after a few days to see how your fosters are going (noting that if there were any issues, your Coordinator would have been notified.
Adoption at Petbarn
The staff at Petbarn interview all potential adopters to ensure they are the right fit and meet FFARQ’s adopter requirements. They make the decision on whether the adoption can go ahead, and have the adopter prove their address (sighting their drivers licence or other suitable documents). The adopter completes the Expression of Interest form and the kitten is adopted.
Once the Coordinator has been notified that the kitten has been adopted, they change their status to ‘adopted’ in Shelter Manager and send an email of congratulations to the adopter. The email states that the foster carer will be in touch in the next few days to let the adopter know more about their new family member. The Coordinator sends the new adopters details to the foster carer, asking that they contact the adopter.
Adopters are happy to hear from FFARQ foster carers, and will often continue to send photos and updates.
